Human Development Indices and Indicators in the RA (2023/2024)

The study of indicators and indices published by international organizations allows to address two important problems. First, to assess the performance of the RA in the given period with the help of comprehensive numerical measures, as well as to make intertemporal comparisons in order to understand whether the country moves in the desirable direction. Second, to compare the performance of the RA with other countries to ascertain Armenia’s relative position in the region and Eurasian Economic Union. These results are important, since they help to derive the comprehensive assessment of the economic situation, which is needed both for the public and the private sector. The present analysis is aimed at addressing the foregoing problems. Full material is only available in Armenian.

The problems of world order and geopolitical supremacy have always been in the focus of political research. As a result of the change of objective and subjective factors, the geopolitical axes have been constantly changing over time, passing from a multipolar world order to a bipolar one, then becoming unipolar for a short period of time and reaching the new world order. The current course of geopolitical events shows that a number of major actors have appeared on the world stage, which threaten the supremacy of the United States in the world. This article is dedicated to the study of the role of the United States in the context of the changing world order, as well as to the identification of the threats that hinder the supremacy of the United States in the current world order. Full material is only available in Armenian.

China's "Belt and Road" project and Armenia։ A missed opportunity or a geopolitical choice?

On October 17-18, 2023, the third "Belt and Road" summit of international cooperation was held in Beijing, which was attended by leaders of more than 2 dozen countries, high-ranking delegates from more than 130 countries. In various analyzes published in previous years, the "Luys" Foundation referred to the possibilities of the Republic of Armenia's participation in the Chinese "Belt and Road" initiative, generally encouraging Armenia's more active participation and initiative in this Chinese mega-project. Unfortunately, in the previous years, the current government of Armenia not only did not record any significant progress in relations with China, but also because of its strange foreign policy, Armenia was even more immersed in the trap of the intensifying East-West confrontation.

Within the framework of this analysis, we tried to understand what the Chinese "Belt and Road" project looks like today, 10 years after it was put forward by President Xi Jinping, what are the achievements and prospects of the project. At the same time, we analyzed the level of involvement of the countries of the region in the project, and also tried to understand what is the logic of the policy of the RA authorities in this direction. As a result, we came to the conclusion that both the disproportionate interest in the important Belt and Road Initiative and the inadequate foreign policy towards such a superpower as China are not simply the result of foreign policy miscalculations and missed opportunities, but a reflection of a very concrete geopolitical choice of the Armenian authorities. Full material is only available in Armenian.
